Case Study: Managing Director

The Challenge

Stepping into leadership without fully trusting myself

When I stepped into the role of Managing Director, I felt out of my depth.

My Founder is brilliant, but inconsistent and a little head-in-the-clouds, whereas I’m a real implementor. I thrive on consistency, accountability and having clear direction. I realised I needed more of that around me.

I wanted external accountability and a sounding board — someone I could share wins with and report on what had been done. More than anything, I wanted to feel more confident in what I was doing.

Business can be a whirlwind. It’s easy to doubt yourself, change direction too quickly and make decisions that aren’t always in the best interests of the business. For me, it wasn’t about overcoming a major crisis. It was about creating a new level of operating as an owner and pushing myself to level up.

The Approach

Building consistency, confidence, and a stronger way of operating

One of the things that resonated most with me was the idea that slow and steady wins the race.

I knew this process would be a marathon rather than a sprint because I wanted the results to be sustainable. I’m someone who responds well to tangible and measurable outcomes, and Max helped me distil my work into simple actions that needed to be completed.

That removed a huge amount of mental effort because I always knew what I needed to focus on next.

The consistent accountability became incredibly valuable. Rather than second-guessing myself or constantly changing course, I was able to stay focused and keep moving towards my goals.

The Outcome

Leading with certainty instead of second-guessing

I am much more confident as a business owner.

I feel far more solidified in what I’m doing. I know the decisions I’m making are the right ones, and I have the metrics to back that up. Previously, I often felt uncertain and questioned whether I was spending my time on the right things.

Now, I feel like my actions and efforts have been distilled into the key areas that create the greatest impact.

Professionally, I was able to hit my targets for the year, which was a huge success. I genuinely don’t think I would have achieved that without Max.

The work naturally flowed into my personal goals as well, because when you’re a business owner, personal growth and business growth are often closely connected.

One of the things that has always resonated between Max and me is that we both derive purpose from being of service to others and creating value in our respective fields. Knowing that he genuinely believes in me — not just in my company, but in me as an individual — has created a level of confidence that has had a lasting impact.

As a business owner, you need people in your corner who are willing to walk the journey with you. There are no silver bullets. You still have to do the work, face your flaws and make the necessary changes. What Max does exceptionally well is help you see those things clearly and support you while you work through them.
